OUR HISTORY
Water District 63 was created by the Director of the Idaho Department of Water Resources to administer water rights that were decreed by District Judge George H. Stewart in January 1906.
The “Stewart Decree” spelled out the amounts of natural flow required in the Boise River to supply all parties involved with 100% of the water right. It further states the amounts allowed as natural flow decreases to 75% and 60% of the water rights based on priority dates. The Stewart Decree is still in effect today.
As natural flow diminishes, those with storage rights draw for them to meet their demand. Any unused storage water is carried over into the next season. 330,000 + acres are irrigated in the Treasure Valley from the Boise River.
